Becoming a Jew by choice is an exciting endeavor for the person who wishes to study and learn the sacred and ancient teachings of Torah, holidays, ritual and observance.  Usually a 2-year program, the student learns to read Hebrew, understand and observe holidays and ritual, is encouraged to attend Shabbat services, and decipher Torah in order to look at deeper meaning and purpose in order to understand the history of the faith.  A conversion ceremony completes the learning when the student considers their new role in the faith, and how they will impact the world around them. Each student writes a short essay on poignant questions and these questions are explained to a panel (Bet Din) who listens and questions the candidate. A Hebrew name is officially given, and a ritual dunking into moving waters occurs (Mikveh).
