Laura Boenisch grew up in Newton Massachusetts in a traditional Conservative Jewish family. She attended Hebrew School, became Bat Mitzvah, and continued 3 years after in a post program. She earned her bachelor’s degree in music education with voice as her instrument from Northeastern University in 1984. She started tutoring Hebrew reading in Baltimore in 1998. In 2000 she became a part-time Hebrew school teacher and cantorial soloist at Baltimore Hebrew Congregation. Later on Laura started teaching, tutoring and leading services as a cantorial soloist at other Baltimore Reform and Reconstructionist congregations. In 2007 Laura moved to Maine with her family. After earning her master’s degree in Leadership from Northeastern University in 2009, Laura began teaching students in Maine. She noticed a trend of families looking for an alternative experience. B’nai Portland was born, and in 2016 Laura became an ordained Rabbi through JSLI  Jewish Spiritual Leaders Institute.

Rabbi Laura is a life-long learner and loves to teach. She exudes a dynamic personality and connects easily with children and adults. She loves most types of music and has a beautiful singing voice. Her services are informal and very family friendly.
